Uses & Users:
I live and boat on my 1967, 27', 10,000 lb wooden downeast hull picnic boat (think traditional lobster boat with a canvas navy / buggy top) aka striper boat and I think a Royak would make a fine addition as a tow along or deck mounted or davit mounted companion. Can you put me in touch with any owners in Maine? Where could I try a Royak in Maine? Where might I buy a pre-owned Royak? Pictures of my boat on request. Maybe a loaner? Graham in Maine

Shopper's Questions:
I'm not sure what length paddle to use. I'm 5'8" 140 lbs, women with long arms. It seems like 220cm like a seakayak would be most appropriate. Is this the general thought? My wrists are vulnerable to carpal tunnel flareups, so I'm thinking of a feathered paddle, with a side to side wrist action, very light weight...any advise?

I just bought 2 Royaks. They are in fairly good shape but I would like to renovate them as much as possible...my questions? -is it possible to replace the rubber guard around the boat? -is it possible to replace the compass? -does the drain plug underneath the cockpit area need to be plugged before going into the water? -is their a location for a serial number/would the serial number tell me the age of the boat? -what is best used to recondition the plastic? thanks! toj

Steve: I enjoyed to buy two used royaks from you, about 4 1/2 years ago: Delighted to enjoy them with two questions for you: On each boat, starboard side after near rear of sliding hatch are unique numbers inscribed: 2000750100 and 200630799 if this may help to confirm their age. * They remain very fun and enjoyable, yet the colors very faded from weather and sun: Very recently I tried rubbing compound by hand and with a high speed buffer, which isn't doing anything to brighten up the appearance: What should be done? * I have them placed atop my houseboat and evidently rain water seeps in and flood the interior of the boats: Would you reccomend silicone caulking along the rubber edgemoulding? Lastly, I wonder if I should silicone to prevent water from leaking from the forward sections to the rear storage area? I can see where water can come thru and certainly can seal that up: Yet since water is not supposed to be able to enter the boat hull and there are not provisions to drain ?
